ADVENTUROUS GOTLAND

By the sea
Obviously, many adventures on an island take place by the sea. On Gotland you can devote yourself to water-based activities such as fishing, diving, canoeing and windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Fishing
A tug on the line as entire tip bends. A resistance far out there, a resistance that moves! Bite! Fishing from the Gotland coast includes sea trout, pike, perch, cod, Baltic herring, flounder and garfish. There are plenty of opportunities to fish directly off the Gotland coast. In principle the entire extent of the coast, around 80 kilometres, can be fished freely throughout the year.

Read the rules on fishing in the County of Gotland on the County Council website:

Diving and boat trips
Vattnet är alldeles tyst och mjukt omkring dig. Ljuset är grönaktigt. Världen är en annan under havets yta. The water is perfectly soft and silent around you. The light is greenish. It is a different world beneath the surface of the sea. A series of exciting wrecks lie on the sea bed around Gotland. Two companies offer diving trips for experienced divers. You can also go along on an ordinary boat trip without getting wet.

Kayak paddling
Bubbles rise to the surface as the paddle cuts through the water. One stroke and the kayak glides soundlessly forward. There are those who believe you can’t paddle off Gotland, since there aren’t any skerries. They’re wrong!

The island location means that there is always a lee from the wind somewhere. If the south-westerly wind so typical of Gotland is blowing, paddle off Slite where there is actually at least a hint of an archipelago. Or at lovely Holmhällar in Sudret or in Valleviken or… as you will, notice, there are many choices.

If the wind is coming from the east, paddle along the cliff-girt coat on the west side in the sunset. Wherever you choose to launch, we can promise you splendid views.

Kayaks and Canadian canoes are available for hire at the following places:
