You might say that Gotland has been getting closer and closer to the rest of Sweden. Not because the island has moved but because travel has become so much faster. Today it’s easy to get to Gotland. The ferry from the Swedish mainland takes a mere three hours. By plane, the island is just half an hour away.
There are many daily departures by ferry or air for those who want to get here (and back, of course!).
Destination Gotland´s daily ferry services to Gotland go from Nynäshamn, south of Stockholm, and from Oskarshamn on the east coast of Sweden. From the ports in southern Sweden and the bridge over the sound in Malmö it takes 5-6 hours by car to get to Oskarshamn. The high-speed ferry brings you from the Swedish mainland to Visby in 3 hours.
In the summer, there are ferries not only from Nynäshamn and Oskarshamn, but also from Grankullavik, on the island of Öland.
From Stockholm-Arlanda (Skyways) there are many daily connections to international airlines. There are also flights all the year round to Stockholm-Bromma (Gotlandsflyg and Skyways). In the summer you can reach Gotland by plane from Stockholm, Göteborg, Ängelholm, Sundsvall, Ronneby, Norrköping, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo and Hamburg as well.
In other words, you’re always close
to Gotland!
